S3 Ideal for wet / dry bathrooms & kitchens. Discharge from basin and aircond will fill up water seal. No additional trap required for both basin and aircond pipe.
The flow rating or capacity of a floor drain is determined by several factors:
Size of Waste-line
A horizontal branch wate-line with normal pitch or slope, with a deep seal trap at drain outlet is capable of conveying as follows:
Size | Flow Rate |
2 inch (50mm) | 10 to 25 GPM |
3 inch (75mm) | 30 to 75 GPM |
4 inch (100mm) | 75 to 150 GPM |
Grate Free Area
Outlet size and depth of the floor drain are important in determining the rating of a drain. If the free drainage area of the grating is small, water will build up on the floor, at some point, the head build up above the floor level will produce a flow through the drain that will equal the maximum flow capacity of the horizontal drain line.
The maximum recommended flow rating is based upon the size of the drain, size of outlet connection, and grate free area. For the SANSICO Floor Trap System, a 20mm head buildup of water was used (as per BS EN 1253), and the flow rates obtained are in excess of 84 LITRES PER MINUTE (18.5 GPM) for our S3 model.
Traps with sediment buckets, strainers, etc. will reduce maximum flow by up to 20%
The table gives general reference when considering overlow of fixtures or sources of water that may be discharged through floor drains.
Fixtures | Flow (GPM) |
Wash Basin | 5-7 |
Kitchen Sink | 8-10 |
Bath | 6-10 |
Shower | 5-8 |
Washing Machine | 4-6 |
Dish Washing Machine | 4-6 |

EPDM Rubber
THE USE OF EPDM RUBBER AS SEALING MECHANISM
Rubber has proven to be one of the best media for seals in the last 100 years. It has proven to provide an extremely effective and long term seal.
It is highly chemical resistant to acids, alkali's and has excellent weathering properties.
EPDM rubber seals have been used in pneumatic and hydraulic cylinders (perform very well under high pressures), seals used in water supply and underground sewer pipes(buried in the ground, extremely chemical resistant, even with sewerage), seals in vacuum cleaners and vacuum systems, EPDM is used as diaphgrams in the palm oil industry and in thousands of other application in the industry.

Q1. How reliable is the rubber seal of the floor trap? Will it harden and cause leakage? What is the life span of the rubber?
The material of the rubber seal is made of EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) which is highly chemical resistant, ozone resistant and UV resistant. EPDM is used for rubber rings in pressure piping systems and has a minimum life span of at least 50 years.
The rubber ring of the traditional floor gully uses NBR (Nitrile butadiene rubber) which has been used for at least 30 years in Malaysia. EPDM is a very much superior grade of rubber as compared to NBR.
Q2. Is the product certified by Sirim? What tests have been carried out on the floor trap by SIRIM?
Yes, the product is SIRIM certified to BS EN 1253. Tests undergone are as follows:
• Load test
• Depth of Water Seal
• Resistance of Water Seal to Pressure
• Access for Cleaning
• Anti blockage
• Temperature Cycling
• Odor tightness
• Water tightness
Q3. What is the plastic material used for the trap body (pipe sleeve), outlet, insert, collar and grating?
Trap body (pipe sleeve) and Outlet-UPVC
Insert, collar and grating – ABS.
Q4. How to clear (service) the floor trap if blockage occurs?
For S1 & S2 model - take out the water trap and rinse/wash the rubbish or silt which is trapped inside.
For S3 model - pull the ‘insert’ out then flush with water.
Q5. What is the height of the trap body (pipe sleeve)?
115mm for all models.
Q6. What is the solution if the floor slab thickness is more than the height of the trap body (pipe sleeve)?
This issue can be resolved by fixing a short piece of UPVC pipe adjusted to the finish level.
Q7. Can cockroaches or insects enter the house through the floor trap?
No. This is because cockroaches or insects will never be able to go through the water seal in the trap.
Q8. Is there any ‘side flow’ floor trap produced by Sansico?
Yes, models S1 & S2 can be used for either bottom flow or side flow.
Q9. Sansico floor traps are suitable for what thickness of floor slab?
It is suitable for any thickness of floor slabs, with a minimum thickness of 100mm.
Q10. Can we connect the air-con drain pipe or washing machine discharge pipe to the floor trap?
Yes, air-con drain pipe and washing machine discharge pipe can be connected to the S3 trap body directly without any traps or adaptors.
Q11. What is the depth of the water seal in the floor trap?
For S1 & S2 model - 65mm height
For S3 model - 51mm height
Q12. What is the flow rate of the floor trap?
For S1 & S2 model - 68 liters per minute
For S3 model - 80 liters per minute
Q13. Can we connect the storage water heater PRV discharge pipe to the floor trap?
Yes, the PRV discharge pipe can be connected to the S3 trap body directly.
Q14. What is the grade of the stainless steel grating?
Sansico stainless steel grating are of grade SS304 and having a thickness of 2mm.
